Day 1: Your flight to the UNESCO World heritage site of Selous Game Reserve will leave Zanzibar at 0930 and takes one hour. You will be met at the airstrip in Selous by your Sable Mountain Lodge guide who will transfer you to the lodge. En route, you will enjoy your first experience of this incredible and diverse reserve. After lunch, head out into the reserve on an afternoon game drive. Overnight at the Sable Mountain Lodge. (L, Di)
Day 2: After your first night in Selous, awake early to a dawn chorus and spectacular views from your room (“banda”). After a quick cup of tea or coffee, head into the reserve as dawn breaks for a full day game drive and a thrilling boat safari on Lake Tagalala. There is nothing quite like sitting with your packed breakfast amongst the huge hippo pods, crocs and amazing birdlife on the lake. Return to the lodge for a late lunch and relax by the pool or visit the lodge’s tree house & water hole for the remainder of the day, the choice is yours (Packed breakfast, L, D)
Day 3: This morning, awake again before dawn and leave the lodge this time on foot to explore the surrounding area and the smaller flora and fauna often missed on a game drive. Enjoy a tree house visit en route back to the lodge to check if anything is drinking at the waterhole. Return to camp for a late breakfast before relaxing around the lodge or at the spring water swimming pool. After lunch, visit a local masai village close to the lodge which is home to Saita, chief of this particular village and friend of Sable for many years. The close proximity with Saita ensures that this is a non-commercial experience which often includes Saita as escort giving an explanation of the traditional uses for various indigenous plants in the area. Afterwards, return to the lodge for your final night at Sable Mountain. (B, L, D)
Day 4: After breakfast, transfer to the Matambwe airstrip for your flight to Zanzibar.
This short 4 day safari is perfect in combination with a beach holiday on Zanzibar. We recommend The Zanzibari boutique hotel in Nungwi in the North of the island.
