Detailed Itinerary - 14 Days, 13 nights

Day 1: Fly from Dar es Salaam to Mikindani on the South coast of Tanzania close to the Mozambique border. Stay at the historic and atmospheric Old Boma hotel (D)

Day 2: Explore the old village of Mikindani with places where the explorer Livingstone visited and stayed on his way through. There are also opportunities to go snorkelling or diving in the bay and beyond. Stay at The Old Boma (B,)

Day 3: This morning after breakfast, drive to Kilwa and relax by the beach. Stay Kilwa Beach Lodge (B,L,D)

Day 4: Explore the extensive ruins of Kilwa Kisiwani. Relax at the beach or go snorkelling. Stay at Kilwa Beach Lodge (B,L,D)

Day 5: Today, you will drive North, through Dar es Salaam, and on to the Elephant Island Conservancy which is the centre piece of the camp. Overnight at Babs’ camp and stay in your amazing Bush Rover (B,L,D).

Day 6: Early morning foot safari around the salt flats, following animal spoor in the sand and watching out of elephants, buffalo, lions and stunning bird life. After breakfast, relax and view from the crow's nest in the tower bar & restaurant or from your Bush Rover positioned somewhere on the concession with great viewing in mind. After a late lunch, head out for a game drive in Saadani National Park, with sundowners in the park and a night drive back through the concession. Overnight at Bab’s camp in The Bush Rover (B,L,D).

Day 7: Head out early morning on a game drive, South to the Wami river, where you board our vessel for a wonderful boat safari, and breakfast with the hippos. Returning for a late lunch in the Roof of Saadani, the afternoon is yours to relax and see what passes over the sands of the salt flats. Overnight at Babs’ camp in The Bush Rover (B,L,D)

Day 8: Fly to Zanzibar and on arrival at the airport, transfer to world UNESCO Heritage site, Stone Town. After settling into your centrally located boutique hotel, enjoy an afternoon historical tour of the island’s historic capital on foot. Overnight at Seyyida hotel (B).

Day 9: In the morning, head off to one of the spice farms, which Zanzibar is famous for, to learn about some of the exotic flavours which grow on this most fertile of tropical islands, and carry on to the North coast, Nungwi village and the beautiful boutique Zanzibari hotel. Overnight at The Zanzibari hotel (B,D)

Days 10 & 11: Relax by the pool and around the vibrant gardens of the Zanzibari, with opportunities to dive or snorkel off the nearby Mnemba Atoll, visit the local village in the company of our own “Mr Nungwi”, or take trips further afield to visit Jozani Forest or local craft works. Overnight at The Zanzibari Hotel (B,D)

Day 12: Transfer to Zanzibar airport and fly to the sister island of Pemba. Experience the magical sunset dhow cruise and relax in the very beautiful Fundu Lagoon (B,L,D)

Day 13: Pemba offers some of the best diving in East Africa, but there are many other activities available from this beautiful site. Overnight at Fundu Lagoon (B,L,D).

Day 14: Fly from Pemba back to Zanzibar or Dar es Salaam for onward connections.
