Gems of Victoria & The Mighty Migration

Detailed Itinerary - 8 Days, 7 Nights.

Key: “B”: Breakfast “L”: Lunch “D”: Dinner

Day 1: Take the morning flight from Mwanza to Rubondo Island airstrip, followed by a short drive to Rubondo Island Camp. After lunch there is the chance to explore the island and its surrounds. Perhaps, take a nature walk through the magnificent forest or a game drive in search of elephants and sitatunga. Overnight at Rubondo Island Camp. (L,D)

Day 2: Take to the water and explore the natural beauty of the Rubondo coastline on a boat safari. There are over 300 bird species in the area, including an exceptional variety of water birds, and hippos, crocodiles and otters are likely to be spotted. Rubondo is also renowned for its Nile perch fishing, and those who fancy it may take a fishing safari on the water to attempt to land a giant. Overnight at Rubondo Island Camp. (B,L,D)

Day 3: After breakfast, fly back to Mwanza, and have an afternoon at leisure or exploring the city and its lake shoreline. Overnight at the lakeside Tilapia Hotel or similar. (B)

Day 4: Today, take a morning excursion to Saa Nane Island, with its own rich birdlife and resident mammals. After lunch, drive for approximately two hours to Speke Bay Lodge, on the shores of the lake, only a few minutes from the Ndabaka gate into the Serengeti National Park. There will be time for a bird walk in the substantial grounds of the hotel before sundown. Dinner and overnight at Speke Bay Lodge. (B,D)

Day 5: After breakfast, take a full day game drive into the Serengeti, exploring the wildlife rich areas of the western corridor and particularly along the Grumeti river. This is the period when the migration is never far from our seasonal camp, and the spectacle can be breath-taking. The area immediately around the camp is one of the most wildlife rich in Africa, and the game viewing is wonderful even without the wildebeest herds. Dinner and overnight in the amazing Bush Rover. (B,L,D)

Day 6: Once again you will explore the Serengeti to marvel at the greatest safari spectacle in the world. Tanzania is blessed with an incredible array of safari experiences, but the Serengeti, with its magnificent migrating herds, and huge population of predators, is unbeatable. Dinner and overnight in The Bush Rover. (B,L,D)

Day 7: Take a morning game drive back to Lake Victoria and Speke Bay. After lunch, there is the chance to walk the area around the lodge grounds and marvel at the birdlife, take a bike tour or simply relax, with the water lapping the beach in front of you. Overnight at Speke Bay Lodge. (B,L,D)

Day 8: Take a morning boat trip to a nearby village for a truly wonderful look at life on the lake. There is a vibrant fish daily fish market, and excellent guides to explain about the people of the area. After lunch drive back to Mwanza for onward travel. (B)
