It is a nice hotel by the Indian Ocean in a large complex with many shops, supermarket and a bureau de change for money exchange. It has a few very nice restaurants and bars. There is a large lovely swimming pool & gym for guest use. Relax and overnight.
Day 2After a leisurely breakfast, transfer by road to Saadani national park, the only coastal preserve in the whole of East Africa. With diverse Eco-systems and an untampered coastline, Saadani has a few healthy lion prides, great elephant herds, zebra, giraffe, many antelope and leopard as well as hyena who have all adapted to their unique environment. After a journey of 4- 4.5 hours, you’ll arrive at the amazing 20 metre high stone structure tower at Babs’ camp with 2 en suite bedrooms, a private bar & the restaurant and its own fifth storey crows’ nest. After lunch and a rest, head for a late afternoon game drive which turns into a night drive back to the tower, as part of the safari, your guide will show you how to set a camera trap and why they are so useful-you'll set it before heading for game drive. Enjoy your dinner at the tower restaurant or at the salt flats if weather permit.
Day 3Awake early for a morning game drive around the Elephant conservancy, return to the tower for a late breakfast before taking the amazing view of the bush from the tower's 5th crows' nest. Around 12pm, drive through the park to the Wami River for 2 hours boat cruise. Enjoy your packed lunch amongst the huge hippo pods, look for crocs lining the bank and marvel at the stunning birdlife. Return in the late afternoon by safari vehicle, traversing Saadani National Park from South to North, looking for elephants, lions, buffalo, leopards and much more. Arrive at the camp at the last light. Dinner and overnight.
Day 4After a leisurely breakfast, drive a short distance to your second destination at the beautiful Simply Saadani camp on the beach. Arrive for a short brief and a warm welcome drink. After lunch, take a guided canoe ride down at the camp’s tidal creek, which is great for bird lovers and a great way to end your day (complimentary).
Day 5This morning after breakfast, walk north along the beach with your guide to the sleepy fishing village of Mkwaja and learn about the life of a fisherman and his family as well as a visit to the dispensary and school. After lunch back at the camp, you will walk down to the wildlife research centre to learn about the camp’s conservation projects from collaring elephant and zebra to the upcoming lion collaring. You will also learn about the green turtle project and the breeding beach at the Madete marine park which forms part of Saadani. Every year between July through September, we expect baby turtle to hatch from their nests and wander down to the sea. All of our guests have an opportunity to see this fantastic phenomenon if any are hatching at the time guests are visiting.
Day 6This morning is at leisure at the camp. Enjoy the beach and the ocean. You can choose to take a guided nature trail walk around the camp’s extensive grounds or head again for a canoe ride. After lunch, head out for your last game drive in the park returning to the camp at dusk.
Day 7Today, say goodbye to Simply Saadani Camp and drive back to Dar es Salaam international airport for onward journey.
