Nyamiruba Camp

in the heart of the wilderness

Bespoke Fly Camp in the Heart of the Park

About Nyamiruba Camp

This is our most recent safari camp which opened in August 2022 in Selous Nyerere national park.  With just two bedroom tents and a dining mess tent, this camp currently sleeps just four people.

The site is simply stunning, set on a lake full of hippo with wildlife coming down to the waterside to drink.  Even when you are not out on game drive, the wildlife often comes to you.

The camp has a team of chef, waiter and guide to look after your every need serving up lovely meals from their bush oven.

This camp is exclusive in its simplicity and is a great base from where to explore the heart of the Selous Nyerere national park for some superb wildlife viewing.

There are five well known lakes fringing the Northern shore of the Rufiji River which fill each monsoon season. Between two of them, hugging the arteries of the Rufiji, is the little known Lake Nyamiruba. It is a stunning spot, teeming with birds and mammals. Right on the lake shoreline Nyamiruba Camp sits at the heart of the action. During daytime, hippo pods will wallow in the shallow water just a few metres from terrace of each tent and elephant, giraffe and buffalo regularly wander by to drink. At night, numerous predators prowl the immediate area of the camp.
There are just four rooms at this most beautiful and exclusive spot. Each offer a comfortable and spacious bedroom with solar lighting, en-suite bathroom facilities with solar hot water and a private terrace with magnificent lake view. There is an intimate restaurant serving high quality cuisine and a full range of drinks to enjoy around the camp fire.

Safaris from the Camp

The Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous Game Reserve) is a wildlife haven the size of Switzerland, famous for it’s wild dog packs which were almost extinct here in the 1980’s but are now doing very well.  This park had extraordinary numbers of animals and yet you can be out all day and not see another person making this safari destination very personal and exclusive.  Add to that staying in your own fly camp and it doesn’t get much better than this if getting close to wildlife is what you’re after away from the crowds.
